Male And Female Athlete Of The Year – Criteria
This award will be presented annually to Manitoba’s most outstanding male and female
athlete.
NOMINATIONS
Each Region is encouraged to nominate male and female athletes whom they believe are worthy of receiving this award and meet all of the Award Criteria. Nominations must be endorsed by the Region. All nominations must include a Nomination Form, two (2) letters of reference and a digital photograph.
The Special Olympics Manitoba Sport Program Committee of the Board will carefully review the nominations, and from them select one (1) male and one (1) female Athlete of the Year. These individuals will be put forward Nationally for the Special Olympics Canada Athlete of the Year Program.
AWARD CRITERIA
Nominations will be judged on the strength of their submission by the criteria described in the following:
I. PARTICIPATION
- The nominee must be a registered athlete in a Special Olympics club(s).
- The nominee must be involved in Special Olympics program(s) throughout the year.
II. ATHLETIC AND PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT
- The nominee must be successful in his/her sport(s), doing their personal best to achieve their athletic goal.
- The nominee must demonstrate improvement in athletic skill.
- The nominee must demonstrate improvement in personal growth and development.
III. SPORTSMANSHIP
- The nominee must exemplify the true spirit of Special Olympics.
- The nominee must display sportsmanship and be considerate of fellow athletes.
AWARD RECOGNITION
- This award will be presented to the recipients at the annual Special Olympics Manitoba Provincial Conference.
- The recipients will receive a certificate and/or plaque.
- All nominees will receive a certificate.
- The recipients will be recognized in the Special Olympics Manitoba newsletter and website.
