Special Olympics Manitoba - Provincial Conference

It was another successful Provincial Conference…thank you to the delegates, our presenters and our sponsors!

The Provincial Conference was a wonderful opportunity for all head coaches, assistant coaches and club volunteers to re-energize and focus on the upcoming season. Thank you to our Regions for supporting all the delegates and for making it possible for them to attend.

Manitoba Lotteries partnered with Special Olympics Manitoba to support coach training; every registered coach with SOM received a jacket, courtesy of Manitoba Lotteries. It was a pleasure to utilize the 2009 Provincial Conference to make the first presentations. Congratulations to all coaches who have completed the Special Olympics training and thank you to Manitoba Lotteries for recognizing the accomplishments of these hard-working volunteers.

We trust that the impact of the conference on all of our delegates was beneficial; the variety of sessions, along with the hands on experiences the coaches can share, will be reflected in new ideas and strategies for their athletes. Our organization is only as strong as our volunteers and they are what make Special Olympics Manitoba a leader in the field of providing sport opportunities for people with an intellectual disability.

There were some slight changes this year; moving to November from April and changing the format of the Saturday evening Awards Banquet, replacing it with a Banquet and Talent Show called "SOM has Talent!". It was a fun evening with delegates sharing their talents and others sharing talents they didn't know they had with through the work of a hypnotist.

Thank you again to those that attended and we look forward to seeing more delegates at next year's conference in November 2010.
