Volunteer with SOMSpecial Olympics Manitoba is a volunteer-based organization. Currently over 800 coaches, officials, fundraisers and administrators provide support to our over 1600 athletes. The volunteers are the backbone of the organization. Our success depends on the dedication and skills of our many volunteers. Volunteering is very easy! The first step is to complete the application package. Click here to fill out the online application form or you can request to have a copy of the form sent to you by calling 204-925-5625. When you complete your application, you will indicate the area in which you would like to volunteer (for example, program, fund raising, competitions, etc.) Within approximately ten days after you submit your application, you will be contacted by Special Olympics Manitoba. You will be notified of the next steps required to complete your application, including a general orientation to Special Olympics Manitoba. Some volunteer positions require a criminal record and vulnerable sector search certificate. You will be offered a volunteer position if a successful match is made between your abilities, skills and an available position. If you decide to accept the offer, a start date will be discussed with you. You will then receive information on the next steps for training. Volunteer PositionsProgram Volunteers & CoachesJoin the team of program volunteers and coaches who directly provide training for athletes in eighteen different sports. They work with athletes to improve basic motor skills and teach sport-specific skills. They prepare athletes for competition. The time commitment is 1-2 sessions each week for 1-2.5 hours. Some weekends are required for competition. Be a part of athletes achieving their goals and capture the spirit of Special Olympics! Find out more about coaching with SOM in our "Become a Coach" section. Event VolunteerExperience the energy of a Special Olympics Manitoba event! Committee VolunteerShare your expertise and talents on a planning committee. Gain new leadership and organizational skills, or utilize your creative side in putting on a fund raising event or competition. You can also donate your skills to the regional leadership team, a committee that supports the programs and activities of each Special Olympics region in Manitoba. Meet new people and take pride in making things happen! Office Support VolunteerAre you available during the daytime and enjoy the office environment?
