Volunteers How to Become a Coach
Step I
Initial Contact by the interested volunteer to Special Olympics Manitoba. (via , fax or phone)

Step II
The Provincial office will either send you an application package or you can download it from the website. This includes an application form, job descriptions for program volunteers, programs in your area , the volunteer screening process.

Step III
Completion of the application package includes deciding what program or job you would like to volunteer with, completing the application form indicating your choice, obtaining a police background check and the signing of the code of conduct. Return the completed package to the provincial office.

Step IV
Your references will be checked. A volunteer placement will be offered to you pending application approval.

Step V
Volunteer Orientation. Every new volunteer must attend or complete the volunteer orientation in order to volunteer with Special Olympics Manitoba. Once this step is complete, you will be given the name and number of the Head Coach of your chosen program and you will be able to start volunteering.

Step VI
To become a coach, you need to complete your full Level I Special Olympics coaching certification. i.e. Theory, Technical and Practical
Expectations of Coaching with Special Olympics Manitoba

  1. Fulfill the responsibility of your assignment
  2. Set an example for the athletes
  3. Demonstrate good sportsmanship
  4. Treat athletes and coaches with dignity and respect
  5. Active participation and consistent attendance
  6. Take advantage of the opportunities that Special Olympics offers you.
