2017 Kinsmen Winnipeg Winter Games
Upon assessment of the field conditions for Snowshoe and Nordic Skiing it was concluded by both the groomers and the CCSAM’s members that the conditions, between deep footprints and ice, are NOT suitable for a safe competition for our athletes. Therefore, the Snowshoe and Nordic Skiing portions of the Winnipeg Winter Games have been cancelled.
Special Olympics Manitoba staff is very sorry for the inconveniences this has and will cause. We will not likely be able to reschedule the competition due to the warmer weather and the lack of snow.
We do have delegate gifts for each of you, your assistant coaches (program volunteers), as well as for athletes. If you’d like to inquire about your athletes’ reimbursements for this event, please contact Katherine at som@specialolympics.mb.ca or (204) 925-5628. If/when you come to the office to pick up your athletes’ monies please ask about your delegate gifts as well.
Please note the Healthy Athlete event will still be taking place from 10:00 A.M. – 3:30 P.M. Feel free to encourage your athletes to still attend this event, pick up their delegate gifts, enjoy a lunch at SJR and spectate and cheer on their follow competitors. The Floor Hockey, Speed Skating and Figure Skating will still be taking place.
If you require any assistance in contacting your athletes or clubs please let Manager, Competition Development - Meaghan McMullen know. She will be doing set-up and the final touches for the rest of the Games but she will do her best to assist you where and when she can.
