Volunteer Highlight: Michelle Goertzen

It should come as no surprise that many of our volunteers are parents of athletes themselves. They have the unique perspective of understanding our athletes' needs on top of what it takes to be a great coach and mentor. One such volunteer is Michelle Goertzen from the Central region!

When she decided to volunteer, she originally did so to spend more time with her daughter, Hayleigh, an athlete. A few years later, and the Central region would be lost without her! She's such an integral member of the volunteer community in Winkler and her athletes adore her.

"The hard work [the athletes] put in makes me want to work hard with them," said Michelle. "If they ask for extra training I am in. We will get it done."

Michelle especially loves watching her athletes' successes at competitions, knowing how much effort they've put in.

"We have a great bunch of athletes and coaches," she added.

Watching Michelle coach at a competition, it's easy to see the love and admiration she has for her athletes, and them for her. She gives her all and now has her husband, Wayne, involved as well.

Thank you for everything you do, Michelle!
