SOM Return to Play Memo

MEMORANDUM

To: SOM Stakeholders

Re: Proof of Vaccination & Mask Mandate

It is September, and I am happy to say that planning is underway for a return to in-person programming at Special Olympics Manitoba! The return will focus on the grassroots-club level, dependent upon many factors that will differ by location and sport. Your cooperation and understanding is much appreciated as we work with our community partners.

As a result of the province’s new requirements regarding mask wearing and proof of vaccinations, the SOM Return to Play requirements for in-person activities have been updated accordingly:

Note: Special Olympics Manitoba in-person activities include, but are not limited to, weekly club training sessions, competitions, fundraising events, and meetings, and apply to both indoor and outdoor settings.

Furthermore, facilities in Manitoba will be requiring the use of non-medical masks; however, the athlete has the option to remove the mask while actively participating.  Facilities also reserve the right to request that masks remain on at all times and in some cases may require proof of full Covid-19 vaccination status for everyone over 12 years of age.

For those who cannot provide proof of vaccination, Special Olympics Manitoba will continue to offer virtual programming on our FLEX website that athletes and volunteers can fully participate in.

Exemptions will be considered and reviewed on a case-by-case basis, consistent with provincial health guidelines.  These Return to Play requirements are current and fluid.  Special Olympics Manitoba will continue to evaluate and adapt as new information becomes available, always keeping the health and safety of our athletes, and all stakeholders, as the highest priority.

Sincerely,

Jennifer Campbell

CEO - Special Olympics Manitoba
