2021 Provincial Summer Games Cancellation

After careful consideration, Special Olympics Manitoba has made the difficult decision to cancel the 2021 Provincial Summer Games or Championship Competitions due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This decision falls in line with numerous local, national, and international events being postponed or cancelled due to the global pandemic, including the 2022 Special Olympics Canada Summer Games

Special Olympics Manitoba will be focusing on our grassroots programming; giving our athletes the ability to 'Return to Play'.  The health and safety of our athletes and volunteers continues to be our top priority as we restart local programming.

Future competitions and programming will look different, but we are committed to providing a range of opportunities for athletes and volunteers in a variety of settings and platforms.  In-person competitions will be limited due to public health restrictions and programs will be focusing more on skill development.  New programs are also being developed for athletes such as walking programs, fitness programs, and virtual programs.  Virtual athlete get togethers will also be available for athletes to reengage with one another and share what they have been doing to stay fit and active.

We know that these are challenging and upsetting realities; we all want to go back to the way thing were, but by staying connected and working together, we will be stronger as a movement.
